Temporary, secure shelter is available for female domestic violence victims, and their minor children, at our shelter in Olney.
Transportation To The SWAN Shelter
SWAN employees work with victims to secure transportation to our emergency shelter. Once at the shelter, SWAN provides vouchers to clients to use the local transit company and/or RIDES to access employment and necessary appointments. If transit companies are unavailable, SWAN will provide transportation as approved by a Case Worker. SWAN may be able to provide long-distance transportation through the Greyhound bus company in certain situations as approved and arranged by a supervisory staff member.
What To Expect When You Arrive
Our shelter for victims of domestic violence is located in Olney, Illinois, and clients can stay for up to 45 days. The shelter contains dormitory-style rooms with bunk beds, so the space is shared with others. If the shelter space is filled, we can make arrangements with local motels to secure a safe space for victims and their minor children. Breakfast is a serve-yourself, cold meal, and a cook is on staff to prepare two hot meals each day for our clients. The shelter has a common dining area, living room, and an outdoor area for recreation.
While in our shelter, clients are expected to work with their assigned Case Worker on their individualized service plan. Service plans may include attending the domestic violence education group or a parenting group. Case Workers can help clients apply for college classes, employment, and housing. If a client has visitation with minor children, a Case Worker can assist with accommodating this visitation.

Parenting Group
SWAN offers a 13-week "Parenting with a Pleasure" group that clients can start at any time. Upon completion of all 13 sessions, clients are issued a certificate of completion that is DCFS approved. Call the shelter at 618-392-3556 to enroll in this group.
